Master Cylinder Brake Lines

Master Cylinder Brake Lines
brake master cylinder overflowing, because of air in lines?

I just installed an new brake master cylinder in my Jeep CJ. I bench bled the master, but I haven't bled the individual lines yet...

When I pump the brake pedal, reservoir overflows and spills out, even though one of them is down to half full. when I take the cover off, the one that is half full looks foams/bubbly.

Could this be because I have not bled at the wheels yet? If not, what else can be causing it?

these are manual brakes, no ABS ('82 Jeep CJ8)

thanks in advance,
Michael

Most likely the air in the lines, which you're trying to compress when you push the pedal is causing the problem. The foamy bubbles are probably air plus contaminated brake fluid. Bleed the brakes starting at the right rear then the left rear, right front and left front. Bleed them until there is no more sign of air and only clean fluid coming out at all four bleeders. Best method is a vacuum bleeder. If you don't have you'll need a helper. Best method is to run a hose from the bleeder into a small jar and submerging it in brake fluid. That way it's easy to see when all the air (no bubbles) is gone.
